How You Know You Need More Rest

We all get tired. Sometimes life can have such a hectic pace that we start to feel run down and worn out. For many of us, taking a break seems like an excuse for the lazy. However, it is in these moments that we need a break the most. Sometimes the hardest thing for us to do is slow down and leave work behind for a much-needed break. As difficult as it may be, it must be done in order to rest and restore our strength to be the best we can be. However, we must learn to recognize the signs.

How You Know You Need More Rest

#1 You Wake Up Tired

Your body is trying to tell you something when you wake up exhausted and tired. In essence, you need more rest than you are getting. This is your body’s way of letting you know that you need a break badly and you are headed for burnout. When you start waking up tired, it’s time to slow down and take some things off the schedule. If you can afford to take a break right away, do so. If you can’t take a break, reduce your work load and take frequent short breaks.

#2 You are Frequently Moody

When you are over worked your nerves are sensitive and your mood swings are frequent. It’s not hard to get upset about small things. After all, you are operating on very little rest and extremely high demands and obligations. This is another red flag that lets you know it’s time to take a load off and chill for awhile.

#3 You Don’t Have Patience

Our minds may race and we may be anxious when we are pushing ourselves to work without adequate rest. Our stress often expresses itself in impatience and intolerance. We often feel that if another demand is made, or another problem pops up, we’ll scream. We may even feel that waiting for our toast to finish cooking in the holman toaster is too long to wait. We feel this way because we don’t have the buffer of rest to relax us and prepare us for the unknowns and stresses of the day.

No man can live without rest. We can push our bodies to the limit but they will only rebel. However, when we give our bodies what they desperately need we excel flourish and grow exponentially. We don’t get better by denying ourselves things that we need. We only grow and excel when we feed our minds and bodies the things we need the most.
