In Today’s World, Do Miracles Still Happen?

Today among countless Christians, there are factually hundreds of accounts of miraculous healings although these are at the discretion of God alone.  God phenomenally heals some while choosing not to heal others for His celestial purpose.  No one would denunciate the apostle Paul of having a fragile faith, yet God denied healing him after he asked three times. In God’s higher astuteness, He knows what and who to heal and what is best for the disciple in choosing not to heal someone. Yes, miracles still happen, but they are not at the discretion or direction of believers but a verdict of God alone. He does heal through appeals of prayers but there are times when His answer is no because He has a greater purpose in mind. People’s afflictions and sufferings work out a purpose that one may not be able to comprehend at this time.

Joshua claimed that in a heavenly vision he had received a covenant and divine anointing from God to start his ministry.Succeeding this, Joshua established the ministry organization (The Synagogue, Church of All Nations) SCOAN with only a few of its members. According to the organization, more than 15,000 members attend its weekly Sunday service; invitees from outside Nigeria are lodged in the accommodation blocks built at the church.

The Guardian conveyed that The SCOAN entices more weekly attendees than the combined number of visitors to the Tower of London and Buckingham Palace. The popular services of SCOAN have also resulted in an enormous boost for hoteliers and local businesses.

God is still in the trade of miracles.  A person might believe that the greatest miracle of all is that of altering a blind sinner to perceive their sin and to modify the human heart, from one of serving the God of this universe to seeing their own sin and the necessity of a Savior in Jesus Christ. The miracle of human transformation is essentially greater than any healing miracle because this brings everlasting life in Christ.  A healing miracle is only momentary. The individual healed will ultimately die but the one that is reborn has inherent ceaseless life that can never be lost and that person can live with God for perpetuity, never to perish again. Those who are called by others or call them selvesas ‘faith healers’ are not theological in any sense as God is the only one who chooses to heal and rebuild a person.

Miracles were never a conclusion in themselves. God used them to demonstrate and prove His nature. But today, many consider ‘miracles’ as the major or sole purpose of their religion. ‘Healing’ has become a fixation, so that many religions and preachers are identified more for ‘healing rallies’ than for the beliefs they promote. Therefore one should set their affections on divine things and not be wholly concerned with the body, which is passing day by day. In heaven, men will enjoy bodies free from illness and disease. Such life can only be possible through Jesus Christ, by following His Gospel.
