Modern cars are highly loaded with great features to offer high amount of creature comfort as well as safety to the owners. Nowadays, one really doesn’t have to spend a fortune and buy luxury cars to enjoy a whole host of beneficial features, as car makers are increasingly churning out great new cars in the mass market that are packed with a number of impressive features, while also being high on safety measures.
The car makers nowadays highly concentrate on making their new offerings safer, as the modern car buyers are increasingly getting conscious about vehicle safety and new safety technology. Among the many impressive safety features, ESP and Hill Hold Drive Assist system are two increasingly popular technologies that are being offered in several cars in the market.
Let us first checkout what these two safety features actually are:
ESP
ESP (Electronic Stability Program) is known by several names in the market, such as ESC (Electronic stability control) and DSC (Dynamic Stability Control). ESP is basically a computerized technology which is meant to enhance a car’s stability by detecting as well as reducing traction loss. Simply put, ESP helps in thwarting skidding of a vehicle. When ESP detects the loss of steering control of a car, it applies brakes automatically to help the driver regain control over the vehicle and steer it in right direction. ESP automatically applies brakes on individual wheels at a time, such as the outer front wheel when the system detects oversteering or inner rear wheel in case of understeering. Some advanced ESC systems also decreases engine power until the driver regains control over the vehicle. It is to be remembered that ESP or ESC does not enhance a car’s performance during taking sharp turns; it also can’t keep a car from getting deviated during very sharp cornering at very high speeds. This system only helps in minimizing the loss of control over cars.
Hill Hold Drive Assist System
Hill Hold Drive Assist System also goes by various names depending on the car maker, such as Hill Hold Control. It is usually referred to as Hill-start Assist Control system or Downhill Assist Control system or a combination of both. The Hill-start Assist Control (HAC) system helps to keep the vehicle steady and from skidding while ascending steep roads. Thus, HAC keeps the car stable on steep hills and helps avoid roll-backs. This system often comes in combination with Downhill Assist Control (DAC) system that makes descending steep slopes easier and safer. To put it in few words, the Hill Hold Drive Assist System prevents the vehicle from sliding or skidding on steep or on slippery road surfaces. While HAC decreases roll-back, DAC reduces and maintains the car’s speed at 5 km per hour to make sure that the car remains stable while descending slopes or slippery surfaces.
